Default Auto Express STI Spec D review

Latest review on the Spec D. Sounds like the UK press is a little disappointed.
But I have heard they get five year warranty.

It's funny, he mentions lack of low-end grunt....it was my understanding the 2.5 STI has great low-end grunt?
Am I wrong?

Low end grunt of my STI feels pretty good to me... and I wouldn't call the steering "light" either, it's actually pretty tiring to drive with one hand, so I wonder what is up with that.

I don't really get the point of this car... rather have the regular STI.

Hmmmn, of course the tires are going to be noisy and ride hard! They're supposed to do that! These guys are retarded. What, do they want Goodyear all-seasons on itor something?? I think this car will get alot more guys out of M3s, M5s, AMGs, S4s etc. Alot of them who noticed the STI had to say no to the big wing and ricer interior. This is what should have been done from day one with the STI.

Rock, in my opinion, the 2.5L engine does feel sort of soft under 3500 rpm. Usually, I cruise at about 2.5-3k RPMs in my car; any lower and it feels reluctant to go. It's been a while since I've driven an N/A Impreza, though, so maybe my butt dyno is just miscalibrated.

" While the subtle looks will score with some driv-ers, there's no escaping the fact that the Impreza is getting old."

The Impreza is getting old?!

It seems like all of the Euro car mags (CAR, Evo, Top Gear, etc.) have reached a consensus that the current WRX/STi is undeniably entertaining, but the 'rally car for the common man/hooligan' image has become old-hat. Since we didn't get the GC8 version, maybe it hasn't yet worn out our welcome.

chairman dave is close.......

'rally car for the common man/hooligan'

Before the GC8 we got bored with Lancia Integrale's, Cosworth Sierra's & Escorts Pugs 205 & 309 etcetera and et al.

But these type of cars are still so popular with all, enthusiast to yob/thug. even with the ridiculous UK pricing. If you can get get insured, an STi (GC8) maybe even a Bug Eye are within the reach of the "Max Power Brigade".

Maybe its not for everyone, but for me, i'm looking to upgrade and would like to get a STI. Only thing is, i don't care for the wing nor the blue interior(can't believe there not an option for this)...something fun with a little more sophisticated without the kiddy look...can't wait.

seems like the author of the article know nothing about cars or the sti in particular. the interior is how the sti should look like.
