Default So my alarm goes off @ 5:30 this morning...

Hi HO. So my alarm goes off @ 5:30 in the morning. What's up with that? I go grap my glasses and peek through the peep-hole of my place. Nobody around. Not that I can see anything in the dark anyway.

Flash forward to 7:00am as I go out the door to grap the bus to work. I notice that my car is wet from either the rain or dew - water moisture on my car and on the windsheild - nothing new there. However I notice a funny splotch on my drivers side door - as if something was thrown at my car which set the alarm off.

Flash forward again to 4:45ish this afternoon. I get off of the bus and walk home. I notice that on my car, someone has vandalized it by scratching the paint! Not only that, my windows have been scratched too. I guess the moisture on the car in the morning hid the damage done to it last nite. Sux. I called my 3rd party insurance - $200 deductable to get it fixed up. I also called the RCMP non-emergency line about it - talk to the lady at the front desk, but somehow the line got disconnected. I'll call back later again.

In any case, I grapped some photos of my car. While I was grapping them, my neighbour came out and said that she saw someone looking at my car today - picking up some rocks to throw at it or something like that. She scared this person off - she thought he might be mentally challeneged or something like that - but I don't know if this person had anything to do with the damage done to my car.

In any case, enjoy the photos:

Notice the funny looking splotch in the middle. Yah, my car is dirty, and the moisture is all dried up, but you can see the difference compared to the rest of my dirty car.

Rest of the photos you can see here.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Sorry to hear that, I know how you feel.

But whats grap?

EDIT: Holy crap. Just saw the rest of the pictures. Dammit. Seriously, why do people not sleep at night and rather spend their time vandalizing other people's stuff?

Are the scratches really deep?

Lame... don't people have anything else better to do? My car was hit by vandalism to last new years. Someone took a hammer to my passenger side A pillar. Upon further inspetion, it looked like a lot of cars got hit on the same street that one night. What's the point?

Good luck with the fix!

Well the clear coat is definetly damaged, and so is the paint underneath. Subaru paint isn't known to be very thick either. I don't think it's down to the metal though, but if they're going to fix my car, they'll have to remove the paint down to the metal anyway.

I just hope that the newly painted side of my car will match the right side of my car. I want OEM windows too. I had my front windshield replaced when I got a crack in it - and it isn't as good as an OEM window.

In any case, some poor (chinese) guy made a post and misspelt the word "grab" and spelt it "grap." It has now become a Subaru coloquial (sp?) term which means to "grab" something. Some people use it in refering to "grabbing a corner" or when a post in a multi-page thread is the new post on a new page - "Look, I've grapped a new page in this thread..."

Ah, such culture we have here in VIC.

that totally sucks.. They didn't even settle until your car was completely covered with scratches..

I had a vandalism case last year where a small group of teenagers threw rocks at my car which put small dings/paint chips all over the side of the car, it's not a fun experience at all..

Grap on your tired parnets oilcovers?

Seriously though, that sucks about your car. I'm sure that it'll get fixed up nicely. If they don't have to spray the whole car, make sure you get a very good look at where the old vs. new painted panels come together before the body shop releases the car and all is done. I didn't with a previous vehicle and in some lights there was a noticeable difference in colour. It'll effect the value of the car obviously so it'll pay to make sure it gets done perfectly.

Yep. Thanks for the tip Flaps.

My father-inlaw has a garage that does minor repairs, but I think in this case, I'd rather pay the deductable and take it to another shop. That way, if I'm not happy with how things are, I can bitch and complain and get it redone.

It's called a rock.

If you're wondering why I don't park my car in the carport it's because we only have a single-car carport. My wife parks her car there so that in the winter, we don't have to scrape the ice off of her windows. I typically take the Skytrain out to Surrey.

Anyway, after I moved my car to the back underneath the carport, I found a rock in the front of my house. It looked out of place because it wasn't the pea-sized gravel we typically get from rain run-off. That, and it had a pointy tip on it. Upon further inspection, I could see blue paint on the tip.

My hypothesis is that whoever used it to vandalize my car, also used it to try to break my window (hence my alarm going off @ 5:30am). If you look at one of the pics, you can see that on the left-side windows, there's a "ding" in it, rather than a scratch - that's prob. where they threw the rock, hoping it would break the glass. It triggered my alarm and he/she/they took off like scared cockroaches.

And I thought this thread was dead...

Okay. Things have just gone from vandalism to wierd.

Tonite Reen and I were watching Minority Report on TV. At around 11pm, some dude comes knocking on our front door window. We're lookin' at each other thinking the same thing - why is someone knocking on our window? We're not expecting anyone - family or friends!

I go to the door, peep through the peep hole and see a white guy with curly hair, wearing a blue shirt. I yell, "who is it?" The guy yells back, "open the door!" I'm thinking, who the heck is this guy yelling at me in MY house telling me to open my door. I yell back NO! He continues to bang on the glass as I go grap the phone to call 911. As I talk to the operator, the guy continues to knock and stand at the door, but eventually walks away south along Sussex.

An RCMP officer calls my house a few minutes later - a bit caught off guard because the 911 record says the number belongs to "Irene Yung", but I answer the phone - but the gears start turning. I explain to her how this guy came knocking on our door demanding to get inside our house. I also say how my car was vandalized yesterday, how my alarm went off at 5:30am that morning as well, and how my neighbour saw some dude holding a rock at my car on Friday.

Unfortunately, since no real "crime" was committed this evening, all she could do was patrol the area and close the call. C'est la vie.

Another 15-20 minutes pass, the movie has ended, and I'm just peeping out my front window. I notice this person walking in the pouring rain, with curly hair, a blue t-shirt on and white pants. Why, it's our friend Mr. "Open the door" vandal who scratched my car up. As he approaches the front door, I grap the phone to call 911 AGAIN and just as he's about to knock on the door, I pound my side of the door with my fist. Freaks him out. He then proceeds to call me a coward and tells me to open the door. I just continue to speak with the 911 operator on the other side.

The officer just came to speak with us a few moments ago. She's going to hang out in this area tonite.

I hope Reen's car doesn't get vandalized. Good thing I took the rock that the guy used to scratch my car with inside. It's in my dining room hutch!

HOLY COW.

I don't know how you or your wife will manage to get some sleep tonight at all. That is absolutely weird. Good thing you didn't open the door or else things would have probably turned very bad. Just sleep with a baseball bat close to site tonight Darren. And if you get the opportunity, maybe walk your wife to the car out of her carport if she leaves earlier than you? Man. Horrible horrible situation..

Now that's a scary story . . .
My spidey sense tells me he's either

a) stalker
b) an individual who has some sort of disorder
c) drunk
d) or just plain hates ya

Too bad the police aren't allowed to sleep over
Or you could setup traps like home alone j/k j/k.

Seriously though,
maybe you can ask your neighbours if they've seen any suspicious individuals lurking around at night. *Block Watch*

Dude, it's bad enough he messed up your car, now he want sin your house to potentially harm you, your friend (GF?), maybe take your belongings.

That's just weird. Smart move though, not opening the door. First step of getting out of a bad situation is never getting into it in the first place .

Hope everything goes smoothly tonight! Let us know what happens!

Thats tough in a situation where you cannot park anywhere but outside. I finally got a garage spot in the past few motnhs in the new place we moved into, but bfeore I had to live with the minor scratches from parking outside. I also got a reserved parking spot at school and split the costs with a friend because when I park in a general lot thats unsupervised, bad things happen. I guess the only thing you can do is, if you can control it, park somewhere highly visible (not only to you, but to everybody else). Also look at your environment, look for things which can be used as weapons against your vehicle.
