Default Supercharge or not to supercharge, that is the question.

So I've been hearing a lot about superchargers for my 2.5rs. I have a 98 dohc and I am wondering if there is even a supercharger kit out for this car. Basically, I came across a vishnu turbo kit with 10k on it, do I continue the long lost search for a supercharger kit, buy a stage 3 forced air tech kit or do I pick up this slightly used Vishnu kit? Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

There is no SC kit. It is all DIY.

all depends on how much money and work you want to put in, More money= less work (usualy) a kit will also go in much faster than some sort of custom setup, but if you want to be unique (at least more so) go with a supercharger + you have no lag and that would be fun as hell

Well, I did find a supercharger kit, raptor superchargers. My main goal with this car is to run stock bottom end and stock trans but have some boost around the autocross track. I'm starting to race this car and thought SC would be best for autocross with the fact of having no lag out of corners. Also, I am a Ford SVT Lightning owner, and Ford tech, and I have a lot of experience in the SC department.

Those are infact Centrifugal Supercharger, which do have lag unless you can keep the rpms high enough. I don't know of anyone actually buying and using one.

You really need to evaluate what your goals are for the car. If you are really planning on Autocross, a supercharger is a great option but it has to be custom and will be very expensive compared to a turbocharger.

IMO the GT30R is a big turbo to be running on a stock bottom end. It would be cheaper to build a turbo kit from used WRX parts, the TD04 will spool super fast on a 2.5L which would be good for Auto-X. And by cheaper I mean you could probably source all the parts used for less than $1000.

The raptor kit doesn not exist as an item for sale..... It was tested and failed. The Raptor website talks about it, but also says they will be available in August 2005, but then say they are not ready yet.

Anyway, the developer had the internal belts on the SC fail. So he stopped work on the kit.

My SC works, and its fun, but it was a fair amount of work. And none of it was "kitted", it was all fabbed by me.

Ok, well I thank everyone, as I am convinced now not to go the supercharger route. As far as the turbo route goes, I found a jdm twin turbo kit that supposedly will bolth right up to my motor and all i will need is a engine management system. Would I be better off playing with this kit, the gentlemen said would sell for $300, or purchasing something like the FAT kit? Also, I came across a vishnu kit for $1500. Would it be worth picking that kit up? If it does come down to it, how hard is an sti engine and trans swap?

The twin turbo kit will work.....If you have a left hand drive car.

not to mention to use a stock turbo exhaust manifold you would need the turbo crossmember.

reddevil: what are you running for EM, injectors?

Your best bet is to do a wrx engine swap. The motors are getting easier to find and many shops are now doing swaps. You would have no tuning to do and have a reliable fast car because of your 4:11 final drive in your factory tranny.

Perfect Power SMT6 and 370 cc injectors. 370 cc injectors are good on the 2.2 up to 200 plus whp or so....... with the right tune.....

I actually found an 03 wrx engine with 60k on it for $1000. What else would I need to do the swap besides the motor? Would I need the wrx computer? cross members? etc?

Do not need the tranny or anything behind it. Just the whole harness and ecu and crossmember, manifold, turbo, and exhaust. Make sure when you get your harness that it is complete and un-cut.
