Alright everyone. I did not get any help posting this on the main forum board. I am looking to turbocharge my 90 Legacy L sedan, and am wondering what I am looking at as far as a total package price for everything that I will need to buy. Who sells turbo kits. Also what will the installation cost, ballpark figure. My other concern is whether my 5 speed be able to handle the added power, or will I have to get a beefed up transmission. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Peter, this is just a guess but depending on what extras you get like piggybacks( AFC, ITC, a Boost controller, etc) and guages, I would say anywhere from 4-6grand for everything including labor? Minnam has the kits right now I believe, and there will be another kit coming out by another company that RalliSpec will also be helping out on so that may be a good choice as well.
Your tranny should hold up just fine as long as you don't beat the hell out of it You will need a new clutch right off the bat but the actual tranny should be OK. The only major difference between that tranny and the turbo tranny(besides the actual clutch operation) is that the turbo tranny's drive gears( 1st, 2nd, etc.) are shot peened, but according to SOA, the replacement gears for the turbo trannys are the normal gears from the regular tranny so what does that tell ya ![]() You'll also need a 91 Turbo hood unless you plan on putting your own scoop on, or you run a front mount intercooler. Figure in a complete exhaust from the downpipe back as well since the stock pieces just won't cut it. Still, well worth the price if you are able to do so financially IMHO. Hope this helps some. Give Kevin @ JC Sports a call... they've had alot of experience turboing Subes, since the early times... I'm sure they'll have a kit for you... from what I've seen (and used) their kits are bolt-on... less to tinker around with than the Minnam kit...
just my 2 cents.. good luck! |
