i am selling my 02 rex to pick up a 98 or so legacy GT sedan, i love the way they look and drive and love even more, buying one and nothaving crazy insurance and car payments for ever. What do they typically go for? i am looking around 80-120K miles.. and have found them around 6-8 grand or so.. seem right?

There is a pretty nice 98 GT sedan 5mt in this area for less than 5k. Too bad it is so far away from you. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=940436

The 1st Gen GTs (2nd Gen Legacy) are very nice to look at, wagons too. Beware the HG issue though. If that issue is already worked through then all the better. Good luck with your search.

gt came out in 96, like mine, only in automatic, even though its not anymore.
The headgasket issue is pretty much the same headgasket issue you will probably end up dealing with on any high mileage subaru |

You realize you're going for a big drop in performance right?
![]() If you can't get proof they replaced the HG's already, I would plan on doing that very soon so you don't have an issue on the road. The 4EAT I know is bulletproof, mine has 206K on it;tho I'd imagine you'll wisely be going with the 5MT ![]() Easiest upgrade for these cars is a rear sway bar, some stiffer struts and/or lowering springs help out nicely as well. I have an 18-22mm adjustable Whiteline RSB + KYB GR-2's on mine and the ride is pretty nice. Not too punishing on the crappy raods around here, but much much better than stock. KYB AGX shocks offer good adjustability with a minimum level of firmness equal to the GR-2's. If you get a wagon, Whiteline is the only company I know of that makes rear springs specifically for the wagon's big ass. Good luck with your hunt, let us know what you find |

oh i know about the drop in performance... but i am not really looking for a fast performance car at this point in my life. Like i said before my band is going on tour soon and i would like to own a car rather than have one financed while i am not working at my usual office job.
Its between a legacy 2.5 GT or a 4runner... weird combo huh? David |

4runner and 2.5GT are comparable IMO
![]() Of course, we're all biased, but I'd say go with the GT for many reasons, handling and gas mileage among them. Band translates to Wagon, even if all you play is the harmonica. An NA 2.5 with about $1k worth of engine mods (EL headers, exhaust shop piping, intake, pulleys) isn't as sluggish as you'd think given that it's manual. Of the WRXs I've driven, I'd take the responsiveness and low end grunt of my Outback over the 2.0T any day. The linked sedan would be an awesome car, especially after some AGX or coilovers (2002 WRX coilovers will fit). |

Good choice, legacys(2nd gens specifically) are quite possibly the best cars ever made in the history of man.

then I have one quick question then. I have a 98 legacy 2.5 GT. What my question is is that a first gen or second? I've got over 150K and I've haven't had a problem with the head gasket but I have had a problem with the rear 02 sensor. Code says PO136 which is Downstream 02 sensor circuit malfunction, and once I had PO141 (Downstream O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction) if anyone knows what going on with it it would be a great help. Sorry don't know it I should have posted this last statement in another thread or not.

^No offense, but this is totally not the right place to post this. Some of what you're asking can be addressed in the FAQ.
