Just wondering what intakes will keep the motor running as smoothly as my motor is running now with the Cobb Acces Port + stock airbox? The Search failed me this time.

My TXS short ram works great. There are a few that are thought to be crap, and a few that are supposed to work really well. The TXS shorty is one of the good ones, I've had no problems with it.
There are a lot of threads on this though, someone is bound to tell you to search regardless of you having tried it, lol. But yeah, TXS SRI FTW! |

Maybe you just need to lear to search better. Just kidding, I am in that mood.
I am givign a +1 for the TXS Shorty. I had one on my WRX and when added I had to not make a change on my UTEC, and from the logs it didn't seem to through things off. It seemed to add some snap to to the throttle through. I ordered one today for my STI to go along with some up coming mods. I will toss it in by it self throgh and let you know what comes of it. I should have my wideband by to so I can check the AFR before and after. |

Just wanted to throw in a thought on the CAI.
When i had my Ecutek flash i thought cool ill run my cai anyway, well with my stock airbox back in i make targeted boost everytime. I was always off by 2 psi or more with the CAI. |

I can strongly recommend the Typhoon. Do a search for posts by me talking about the typhoon and you'll have tons of data.
The typhoon is the best intake you could possibly choose for an Accessport map - even better than Cobb's own, which is decidedly a hot-air intake and has had a problem lately of falling apart at the glued seams. |

According to UPS, I will be getting my AP tuner tonight. I already have the TBE and gutted uppipe, so I'll be going directly to Stage II on my 02 wrx.
I bought the Typhoon setup a while back and ran it CAI until a hydrolock situation on a flooded street. I then went to the shorty ram air style and did that until CEL's and negative reading all over the web about any aftermarket intake on the WRX. Well, I thought it was awesome when I had it on and hadn't read anything on the web about it being the devil in your engine. I would really like to put it back on, cause it sounded awesome and felt like it gave better throttle response and pull, contrary to what nay-sayers have to say. My debate is wether I should sell it and use the money towards something else, samco intercooler hoses come to mind first, or thow it on with my stage II setup and cross my fingers. I am afraid that the new AP map, which will lien up my A/F mixture a bit, in combination with the typhoon CAI, an intake claimed to have negative effects on the WRX A/F mixtures, will cause my car to blow up and cause kill thousands of innocent people in the blast radius. To typhoon or not to typhoon, that is the question.... |

Every post in this thread you have read is opinion.
For Cobb's answer read the map notes for your car and the specific map you are using. The map notes can be found here WHAT DOES "should work fine" MEAN???????? ![]() Until you datalog your car, you dont know. Last edited by parker/slc/gc8fan; 04-06-2006 at 04:00 PM. |

Ive talked to a couple tuner shops, they have said that any short ram intake will work with the cobb stage 2 kit but provide no additional benifit other than you can hear the engine better. This is due to the heads only being able to handle a set ammount of airflow which is exceeded by short air intakes and you are essentially at your maximum airflow with your stock intake.

+1 on the txs sri, not major changes in airflow when datalogged, and it did improve throttle response somewhat....

Say that? Stock airbox is good for a lot of power (read: more than stage 2). But the gist of it is that the MAF will not read correctly unless specifically tuned for it. |
