Default why can't people move outta the left lane?

everyday... i deal with people who's sole mission in life is to stick themselves in the left lane when not passing.

why??? why don't you drive in the right lane when there's no car? why don't you drive in the right lane when there's a whole bunch of cars waiting behind you, so that they can pass YOU?

one of these days... i'm gonna become a cop and just pick off people who like to park in the left lane on a highway. forget about all my other goals in life. if these guys make driving in slow in the left lane their mission in life, then i'm gonna make it MY mission in life to pick'em off

yeah... i'm having a bad cold... i'm whining

Yep, now I give a good 10 seconds to see if they get the idea of moving over, and then I'll pass 'em on the right side (although I admit that's not the safest). I won't do it with semi's though.

Default You know what I hate?

When you finally decide that it's safe to pass them on the right side, and signal your intent, THEN they start moving to the right lane WITH you... what is wrong with these people?

I deal with these kinds of problem everyday I drive from Richmond to BCIT in Burnaby. All these people just cut into the left lane and slows down. Have no intention of passing the cars in front of them previously. Then when I see that there is a semi in front of a few cars, I decide to change lane and overtake the Semi, BUT NO!!!! the car that just changed into the left lane.... follows me and changed into the right lane. AGAIN no intention of passing the semi at all. Just stay behind it on the right lane instead of left lane. Thats one of the reason why I would be late for classes. All these drivers need to be taught a lesson.

SO Go get them -S-

I don't want to sound like a maniac speedfreak boyracer, but why do you guys all think/say that passing on the right is dangerous?

I mean, I agree it isn't the most "right" thing to do, but if the car ahead in the left lane is blocking you why not pass on the right? By saying passing I mean, leaving plenty of room, signalling, and passing at your current speed of travel. Not a r!cer flyby pass.

So, what's makes passing on the right such a faux pas? Instead of sitting behind the problem vehicle and stressing out giving yourself a brain aneurism, why not just pass on the right safely?

Default Two reasons...

these are my reasons.

1) Blind Spot - personally I find that cars have a larger area to "disappear" into when they're on my right hand side.
2) Do they know that you're passing them in the "slow" lane? For example, if I'm ahead of someone who is going faster than me and I am in the "fast" lane and the "slow" lane is empty, what I will do is move into the "slow" lane (if safe to do so) and force the other driver to move around me -- that way, I know exactly where he is and he knows exactly where I am.

Worst case scenario with passing on the RHS - I'm travelling faster than another vehicle which is in the fast lane. The "slow" lane is empty so I pull into it and start my pass. The other driver going slow in the "fast" lane decides to move into the "slow" lane but I am there. Crash, boom, bang. Not pretty.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

ps - I still pass in the "slow" lane if the other driver won't pull over!

Yes those are valid points. But the point is, if the vehicle in front is parked in the left lane chances are they aren't going to be changing lanes anytime soon. One takes chances driving everyday anyway, no big deal. If you want to play it safe all the time, then patiently wait behind right?

I always get to school 1/2 hour early. Just occassionally that I am late is because all these drivers just tend to block me off.... I feel like I am in a cube.... slow car in front and both sides.

yeah... a physics teacher of mine got pulled over on the autobahn by a cop, who got annoyed cuz he was driving too slow "excuse me sir, do you mind driving a little bit faster?" it wasn't like he was a slow driver either

i don't like the idea of passing on the right because of the reasons that darren posted, and i definitely don't like doing that to a semi, although i rarely encounter one that's in the left lane, unless they are passing. i guess my biggest gripe is that i found myself passing on the right more often than i liked to SUV's. we all know how big blind spots are on those cars. also, i think in a way, drivers are much more oblivious to cars on their right, so sometimes i noticed that when i pass people on the right, they seemed a bit surprised.

also, most people seems to take flashing highbeams as a sign of hostility and refuse to move over, then speeds up as you proceed to pass them on the right.

Yep, I just passed a big ass Suburban or SUV Chevy from the slow lane, after I crept up to him in the fast. I looked over my shoulder to give him the look, and i dunno what he saw, but he decided to go in the slow lane behind me after I passed...

That's only 'cause they're gonna be turning left up a ways and can't be bothered with trying to switch lanes at the last minute. They're probably fed up with ignorant drivers who won't be nice and yield to give 'em a break sometimes.

On a ranting note, there are those that like to shadow semi's in the fast lane, so that when you're following them to pass the semi, they're not moving up ahead. A real sucky situation to get side swiped!

Problem: Why are we trying to avoid slow runners in the fast lane by cutting back into slow lanes anyways?

I dont' see that we're the wrong ones here (for those who are for "con" in this thread), so that's why i give dirty looks to slow runners in the wrong lane. THEY ARE the one who's wrong.

hey, i'd like to get dirty looks from people because by then i know i 'm doing something that's either wrong or effecting others....
although i give more than i recieve anyways hehe....

Solution: I'd say 80% of the time we travel in the slow lanes anyways. that way we dont' get blocked all the time. and also we get two lanes , left and sometimes right, to change into, and that will also avoid cutting-into-lane problems since you ahve 2 choices now...

I don't think anyone is against passing slow moving vehicles on the left. Some are just opposed to passing on the right, and I don't see what the big deal is.
