Post Turbo setup on 97-99 2.5GT?

Does anybody here have a turbo-charged '97-99 2.5GT? I'm not in any hurry to put forced induction on my car, although it may happen in a couple years. I'm curious as to how the intercooler setup works on the Legacy compared to the Impreza. With our different hood scoop it doesn't seem like the behind the throttle body position would be as effective as it is on the Impreza. Am I wrong? I may just be visualizing the scoop placement wrong - I don't have a real good picture of what is actually under the scoop is one were to remove the blocking plate under the scoop.

I was kind of thinking that the front mount intercooler might be better - turn the intake manifold around so the throttle body faces forward (saw that on someone's car somewhere on this board or some other Subie site).

Anyway, just curious.

I have a 94 GTB, which is the twin turbo 2.0DOHC with the same body style as your 97-99 (I think).

The intercooler sits below the scoop and although I haven't done any scientific or measurable tests it seems to work pretty well in this position, although the scoop isn't as high as an Imprezas I think it is wider (but mine also has vents in the scoop to cool the turbos)

Thumbs up

Paul,

I noticed the nice grill and badge. I also like the placement of the driving lights. Is that stock on a GTB?

The grille and badge are standard, but I added the driving lights myself - the standard headlights are lousy so I uprated the bulbs to 130/90 and added ring quartzline driving lights into the grille (with 130W Bulbs) - I also have hella spots in place of the original fogs.

Hey Patrick,

You know.. I have been wondering the same thing. Not saying that this is something I would do... but it would be interesting to know if anyone has. I bet this would be a good question in the general forum. You figure the Minnam or JC type kits would work the same. It would be nice to make that scoop functional. I bet someone out there has done this. But who and where?

Thats and nice car Paul. Quit rubbing it in. Ugh.

Judging by the picture, it appears that even Subaru uses a different setup for the Legacy (other than the obvious twin turbo Legacy vs. single turbo Impreza). It appears in Paul's picture that the intercooler sits flatter than the Impreza's - perhaps due to the lack of room under the hood scoop. Obviously the flow directing plastic nozzle thing from the underside of the hood would be helpful in maximizing the efficiency of the smaller (?) Legacy scoop. I checked out the picture on Paul's website, too - the GT-B's hood looks like it is the same as the 2.5GT's, just with that flow director instead of the metal plate we have under our scoop. Hmmmmmm, veeellly intellesting....

I'm going to put this post over on the General board to see if I get any hits over there.
