Default Anybody else get nervous about rebates?

Sooo.... back in January I bought some new camera equipment.... including a Canon Rebel XT, lens and Rebel 35mm camera because I would be getting $300 back in their rebate program...

BUT I got a non-compliance letter stating I could resubmitt.... so I just got off the phone with them to find out what I was missing and got told that I would be receiving my $300 check in the next two weeks because the letter was sent to me in error.

Happy day... my $300 check will be here soon!!!

So that means, since I started keeping track of my rebates at the beginning of 2005, I have not missed or been denied any rebates and have a total of $823.44 in rebates so far...

I did a rebate on a video card a while back. I got a postcard in the mail saying my request was denied because I was missing something. Like 2 days later, with no action on my part, I got the rebate check in the mail

yeah, I hate having to give up the "original" receipt because the fine print says copies will not be accepted...well what if I have to "resubmit"?

Make copies of everything before you send it in... then you have what you need to resubmitt.... this is the ONLY resubmitt request I have ever received... and considering the value of this rebate, I really don't mind getting the card to call them...

Yo Texas25RS..... maybe your problem was because you bought a Canon SLR and you should have bought the Nikon D70..... Much better. You probably wouldn't have had any problems with the rebate. Usually Manufacturer rebates are quicker than store rebates too. I had to deal with that crap at Radio Shack and Office Max a while back. But still the D70, ithink is a better camera. Just wanted to through in my 2 cents.

The decision to go with Canon was a long process (I actually waited an entire year to see how the camera would perform in a longer setting befor ebuying)... I think your opinion on the D70 is HIGHLY subjective as there are few areas the D70 objectively beats the 350D.... and those areas (such as shutter speed) are not things that are important to me, my shooting style and subjects. We won't mention that I ended up getting my 350D for $500 after the rebate... aand that I have access to other lenses since my two photography hobby type friends also shoot with Canon systems...

The rebate is also a rebate through Canon themself.... I don't like store rebates (except Staples easy rebate program) because they always seem to be a hassle.

Don't know..... I used to work for a Video production company in Pasadena and we got one when it first came out..... Awesome camera! I've used both of them. I'm not to fond of the menus on the canon's but the Nikon is pretty simple. Also guys lets keep in mind that the higher the MP NEVER means that the camera takes better pictures. It's ALL in the LENS. A friend of mine has a 13MP Canon and takes crappy pics..... My 5.1 Sony with a Carl Zeis takes better pics. The resolution is ONLY good for Zooming digitally and blowing up pics. The D70 is a 6.3MP that performs around 10MP. You'll prolly never need to blow up a pic to Billboard size unless you are trying to find detail, like a pubic hair in a stack of hay needles.....LOL Every manufacturer has rebates going. Competition is incredible when it comes to SLR cameras. I'd check it out is I was you.... You might be supprised what you'll find. Also, I'd rather take a 512MB or 1GB High Performance SD or XD card for a simple $200 rebate anyday. The cards that those camera required for the best pics are expensive. Check it out.

The price of CF cards have been dropping off SHARPLY since the beginning of the year... if you haven't looked at them recently, take another look.

As for the menus... coming from an old Minolta Maxxum 400, the menus are nothin' to figure out real quick. My Olympus point and shoot digicam has more complicated menus than this.

As so far as lenses.... Canon has some of the best glass out there... so that is not a problem...

I haven't looked lately, no......

I agree that Canon has some of the best lenes..... Hell... most people are not aware of this, but almost ALL cameras and camcorders have canon lenes in them. Any of the lenses that come in a set are good..... just depends on what you are looking for. I think this is becoming a battle of who knows more about the cameras and it's accessories..... I give up.... I'm a videographer not a photographer, but it's been fun!!!

By Law, if a retailer advertises a rebate, it is up to the retailer to make sure the customer gets paid, whether the manufacturer pays up, or the retailer pays up..

What I mean by that, is if you buy a a product from say.... BEST Buy and a rebate prints out on the reciept then that would be up to the retailer to make sure that it is paid....sometimes....not all! However, If a rebate comes inside a package for a certain item (possibly a limited edition or special deal) then the rebate goes directly to the manufacturer or rebate center that handles rebates ONLY from that manufacturer.. ALSO..... Sometimes then manufacturer requires direct purchase from them for ANY rebates like if you found it on the internet or something. So, there is a different between manufacturer and store rebates.... just like if you bought a car. Dealer rebates and manufacturer rebates are not ALWAYS the same...... I don't mean to be an ass but there is a different, not all the time but there is if research is done.

I'm surprised they didn't give you a "Service Credit"
