Default Opinion on steel rims from Lachute?

Hello,

A while back there was a discussion on buying 16" steel rims from Lachute Subaru for $75. I think some of you may have gone and bought them already.

I was wondering what you thought of them? Do they seem to be a quality rim? Decent looking?

Thanks.

I bought 16" steel wheels originally intended for Outback H6. They are plain looking and have an aluminum/silver finish. I got them from Levis Subaru at a price so low I can't mention it.

I have TOYO Observe Garit on them. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow (wheels only).

They were $60 fro regular steelies and $65 for Forester steelies.
They haven't arrives yet - according to Lachute they are still
at SOC somewhere. Hopefully they'll arrive soon. They are official
Subaru parts so finish and quality would be of that standard.

Stu,

The prices you're mentionning are for the 15" rims...... Atroz needs the 16" for his WRX.

You are right, I didn't read closely enough. Someone else on the
thread had contacted them for 16" ones though.

Default 16" for WRX...

I did contact Rejean and the price he told me for the 16" steelies was 70$ each. He also told me they were still in Toronto. I think he's taking names on a list or something.

Hope that helps,

Thanks,

Matt

Was there any ETA?

I contacted Frisby tire last night and they can't seem to locate any 16" rims for the WRX. All they had were 15" for the RS.

It's looking a lot like I'll need to get these rims from Lachute.

Default ETA...

Sadly, Rejean had no ETA, I'm still expecting a phone call though. I have to call him next week for something else, so I'll bug him again.

You're right, those are very hard to find. The place I bought my A520s from quoted me 94$ each on special order, ouch!

I'll keep the guys posted!

If you want, you should leave your name to Rejean, check here:

Check out Auto Imports in Ottawa (near Maitland Road and the 417) I picked up some steel rims for my WRX there last week. They arent all the pretty looking but its better then keeping my aluminum rims on through the winter. I paid $59 each for the 16x6 rims. I have to give them a trial fit still, but the salesman assured me they were the right ones, and that he would refund me if they didnt fit.

Chris,

That's good news. I know where those guys are. I've got a friend that has dealt with them in the past for a VW Corrado and he's quite pleased with that company.

Any idea of when you are going to do a test fit?

Thanks.

I'll be interested to find out too... even though I don't have a WRX..... The stock alloys are 16x6.5 and there isn't much clereance already on the caliper....

Default 16" steel rims for WRX (pic)

Here is a picture of a steel rim with TOYO Observe Garit HT. The rim was intended for Outback H6 but fits WRX. They are very straight. This set up was tested on my car.

Enjoy,

Mike

P.S. I am thinking wheel covers...

Chris

I tried on the rims and they seem to fit perfectly, so if anyone is interested you might want to give Auto Imports a try.

Default Fit of rims from Auto Imports?

Chris,

How was the fit around the hub? I was at Westboro this morning and inquired about their Winter packages. They brought up the issue of the hub fit with other rims. Apparently there can be movement if they are not a good fit and that will cause damage.

BTW, Westboro's package was over $1200 for rims and tires (installed). The rims were "take-offs" and I think the tires were (Toyo) Garit. I wasn't impressed. I was previously told that "take-offs" sell for $80 each, which means they were looking for over $220 a tire.

I'd already called around and Frisby has good winter tires for around $140.

Thanks.

At $80 for take offs, is still 15 more than Lachute wanted. As far
as tires, if you want Alpins, Costco is the place. 195/65/15s are
112 apiece with 12 off until Nov 4. Their installation and balancing
are cheap too (maybe 6-7 per wheel).

Default Does Costco carry Nokian Hakkas?

Hi SubaruStu,

Would you happen to know if Costco carries Hakka's? I was thinking of the NRWs.

All,
By the way, my last winters were Blizzaks, how do the Hakka NRWs compare? Or should I be looking at the Qs instead of the NRW?

Thanks.

I am just wondering how much are you guys sepnding on your 16" Snow tire?

I have the Nokian Q in 16" and is not cheap, but they perform very well!

SubaruStu,

I need 16" rims. I think Lachute was $75 for those. I haven't heard of them actually getting in the 16" rims either, but I haven't personally callled.

Costco's price does seem a little cheaper than others. Frisby will do the balancing and install for free if you buy before the end of the month.

Atroz.

I was planning on getting some steelies and tires from Frisby. If you're interested, maybe we can get a deal from them if we take 8 wheels off their hands.

email me Foz@canada.com if you're up for it.

Foz,

I don't know what you are driving, but Frisby can't get the 16" rims that's needed for the WRX. They had 15" RS rims for something around $65.

Default Lachute...

FYI,
I just got my rims for my REX last week from Lachute. 75$ and they look exactly like Mikanical's post, identical, even got the same tires. You can also get the center cap, highly recommended.

They can also handle rallycross....
