Default igniter smart or dumb?

does anyone know if the internal igniter on a 99 rs coil is "smart" or "dumb"? were trying to get our haltech on line and can't get a consistant spark. when we do it runs when we don't it will not start.

thanks eric

The signal to the coils comes from the ECU. There is no "igniter" as per say.

yeah the ECU will control the spark timing off the crackshaft position sensor most likely.

I have had the Haltech for 2 years now in my suby. I will give you one of my maps if you email me.
Don't listen to lvsubaru, because there is an igniter and if you call it smart when it is or vise-versa then you could blow it up.
First make sure they use an igniter, i have gotten igniters from 98 impreza's for my car, so i know that they at least have an igniter. If you have one it would be right behind the throttle body on the fire wall.
If it is there, set your Haltech to constant charge and use 3.5 ms for the charge time. They use dumb igniters.
If there is no igniter, the E6K can't control i directly, you will need to convert an igniter.
