Default new WRX motor or aftermarket turbo??

hey folks

i have a 2001 Impreza 2.5RS with about 8000 miles....i was wondering if it would be better to go aftermarket or swap the 2.5 engine with the WRX motor from the factory....there are the pros and cons from both sides...aftermarket will be cheaper but i need to have it professionally installed and tuned plus electronics......the WRX would be safer (factory parts are warrentied right?)...but more expensive....and i think the subaru dealer would have a better time repairing a WRX then a 2.5 full of aftermarket stuff....can someone also tell me how much a WRX motor is with eveything needed to make it work....i want power but im not greedy....just 227 will be nice...i already have a cat-back exhaust.... i think i can sell my 2.5 motor after to compensate the expense....i was 5 months early when i bought my RS.....i want that WRX power so badly....any information will be appreciated....thanx to all

Honestly, if you are worried about warranties and having the Subaru dealership fix your car if it breaks, don;t Turbo the car... Factory won;t warranty a transplanted motor.

just my $.02

yeah - if you try to swap a wrx motor into an '01 Rs, you are definitely not going to have a warranty. I would think seriously about trading in for a WRX, and then spending some money to make it look good

Qaulity Turbo + TEC-2 = Safe EJ25 Power

Oh you'll need new gears also.

If it were me I would take my partially paid for RS and fit a proper turbo. Like the people have said in previous posts its not cheap and not for the faint of heart. If your going to spend the money you are going to want to see results. It would be like paying the money for a Viper and never taking it above 65mph.

Wink thanx guys

thanx for all the replies...the reason im asking this is because i have a 2001 and i heard stories about those weak pistons...i want a turbo so bad already....but at the same time i don't want to blow my engine....and i'll have to sacrifice the warrenty....if my engine blows...im in trouble....whats the safest way to go on a aftermarket turbo....i am more than willing to invest in a Tec-2....i just want everything safe and happy ....thanx for you guys 0.02...feel free to add more....

If money is not to much of an object and you don;t care about the warranty, send it to Cobb Tuning and get it done right.

By the way where in Hawaii do you live? I'm from Mililani (Mililani high school C/O 1997)
