Default I'm back... with EL headers. :)

Hello Legacy forum, it's been a while.

Think I last posted here sometime in February, reporting a possible HG leak.

Well, HG leak fixed by Suby Specialties, who also did the 120k service at the same time. Even better, we installed the Cobb EL headers.

All I have to say is, Injen intake + Cobb EL headers + other miscellaneous minor mods = sweeeeeet! A Subaru N/A car for enthusiasts.

The EL headers definitely add power in the mid-range, I think from about 3k rpm on. The tone has also changed; I know a lot of people say that the EL headers don't give off the nice boxer "rumble," but I have to say that they sound just fine to me. Different, but still nice, not "rice."

Of course, I'm not sure how I'm going to pass CA smog in a few months, but will probably just swap the headers for the day or something to get it over with.

Oh, and for those BD/BG owners out there who were wondering if the AVS BE/BH window visors fit our cars, the answer is yes.

very cool. I've always argued that EL doesn't "ruin" the boxer tone considering stock headers are pretty much EL (very close) and you can get a nice rumble out of them.

sound clips?

Yeah, the OEM headers have EL primaries, but they're about 2 inches long

A lot of the preceived "boxer" sound is just terrible exhaust design on Subaru's part (note the 180 degree turn on the right bank's secondary). I've found that EL headers turn the exhaust tone from
X- -X- -X- -X-
to
XX--XX--XX--XX

Above 4k RPM, they sound completely sauce. I'll agree with what mark says and add that the boxer can't not sound like a boxer.

Congrats on achieving less of this:

and more of this:

Yeah, that was my argument- it had more to do with length than shaping. That's why TWE headers are much quieter- they're super long.

sorry janik, don't think they'll bolt up to your ride... of course, I'll take offers if anyone wants to buy my whole ride (Injen, EL headers, MR coilovers, Prodrive P1s, other small mods, etc.) so I can get an 07 Spec B....

How about I just trade you my spec b for your car even? I have three and can get rid of one I suppose...

and yes, they will bolt up to mine just as easily as yours.
