Default Anyone in the area have syncro problems with their WRX?

I was reading this thread and I believe I am having a Syncro problem. Has anyone else in Chicago had a problem like this? I would like to take it to a dealer to fix. I put in a short shifter, but it did this before I put the shifter in. Everyone seem so to recommend SOS. They are mod(Short Shifter) friendly right?

I talked to Cobb and this is done on all the cars that prep for Auto-x. I did it and it works Well.

I actually put the Redline 75W90 in and it didn't make any difference.

Syncros need time to work and they cannot be rushed (unless you double clutch upshift). That's why I don't like short shifters - they reduce the shift knob travel but they do not change anything inside of the tranny so they cannot reduce shift time.

Try this experiment - take notice of how the tranny shifts when you are downshifting, not double clutching or heel and toeing (lazy person's single clutch with a throttle blip). I will bet that you are not experiencing any problems with downshifts.

Unless the tranny is rattling or grinding when you are changing gears at a slow to moderate pace the syncros are fine.

BTW, Cobb may be the smartest tuner on the planet, but MT-90 is a GL-4 rated gear oil and is not suitable for any Subaru tranny, which takes a GL-5 rated oil.

i don't have a wrx

Default

mine has always not gone into first unless i was below 5 mph, i can do it myself if i double clutch and rev match up to about 20 mph, and once or twice i've jammed it in there, once it ground on the way in.

i do get a wierd rattle sometimes going into third at certain rpms.

If I blip the throttle when downshifting into first, it will go in. When I first got the car I never had the problem putting it into first going 20+. It happened after I had about 2500 miles or so on the car, so that's why I think something is wrong with the syncros.

Do you have a problem in any situation other than 2 to 1? In almost any car the tranny will not let you easily make that shift until you are stopped. IF you lean on it to get it to go from 2 to 1 you will definately have syncro problems

Mykrr I just call them like I see them. I don't have a problem with Cobb, but they are wrong on this one.
