Angry HELP!! car is making boost but doesnt go

Last night i installed my helix up pipe and I also put on a manual boost controller at the same time. As of right know the manual boost controller is set at 14 pounds on the dot. I didnt want to over due it or raise it till i figure this problem out. well the prob is when i am at a low rpm say 3k in 3rd my and punch it my car will hit 14 pounds realy quick but the rpms will barely move up then when it hits around 5k it finnaly kicks in then takes off?? if i am fully on it like 1-4 there will be no hesitation at all but if i am just cruising and get on it the car wont go anywhere. Its weird because my car says its making 14psi at 4k in 3rd but yet it will take about 3 seconds for it to reach 5k please help i am bugging out.

Edit: I forgot to mention that i have a small leak at the midpipe/downpipe connection.

Get rid of the MBC.... problem solved.

Didn't you know that they are dangerous on the 04+ models? To me it sounds like your ECU is pulling alot of timing under the condition that you describle with the sudden increase in boost while under load.

GET RID OF THE MBC!!! I think others will agree with me

BTW what other mods do you have done? You mention that you have a leak at the midpipe/downpipe connection do you have a full aftermarket TBE? If you do you better get EM if you don't already because you are on your way to destroying your motor. Read up on the MY04+ OL/CL fuel issues. Good luck.

The delay you are seeing is the CL/OL delay in the factory EM on 04+ cars. Making 14psi of boost with a 14.5:1 AFR does not make power... read before you mod.

Ive read plenty but to be honest with you i didnt believe what i was seeing. a friend of mine with a 05 wrx had huge success with the same manual boost controller. i have mine set at around 14psi, his was set to 17 and he had awsome pull and no probs, he made 232 whp ??tq with up/down/tbe/perrin top mount/ aem cold air/pully and manual boost controller, no tune but afr was reaching 13 and he had fuel cut in 5th. Thats why i put one in my car and set it lower. I just think he got lucky. Thanks for the responses guys i was hoping it wasnt that. Ill keep you posted after i put my stock one back on.

Save your money and buy an AP, much safer and more reliable.

coming from the engineering world i can tell you that no two product is exactly the same. you'd be surprised how much tolerance is allowed during manufacturing. what works perfectly on one car can be a disaster on another. another thing you should learn is that don't take singular cases as if they represent the whole pool. like you just said your friend was just lucky that the MBC worked for him. Though, his engine is probably still slowly getting eaten away by the MBC as he is just making unsafe power. the effect just wasn't "negative" enough for him to realize.

Also... your friend has an 05 and you have an 04. They are different.
The ECU is different on the 04 and the 05. Get rid of the MBC like the people say and research more than one source before you mod. Measure twice, cut once.

my car just started to do this.
the car can reach redline but only if done so slowly
I get full boost but the rpms dont want to go above 4
And when I let of the gas theres a massive bucking/fuel cut
also when driving i'll shift from 2nd to 3rd imediatly after in gear and on gas
theres a violent jerk.....Kind of like runing over a tree in the road

Oh yea cobb stg2

sounds exactly like i did, i had the bucking and the runing over a tree in the road also, i turned my blow off valve softer and it actualy took care of that. I took my mbc off and it stopped the slow climbing to redline but my power is still weird, it kinda has 2 stages. It will go fast to like 5k then just rush foward like a kick in the ass and its only a stock turbo with tbe/uppipe and intake

i actualy have a turbo smart dual port and it was set realy hard the thing wouldnt blow off until 4k and would flutter realy hard and it would buck i then made it softer and it stoped the jerking and bucking but the slow slow climb is killing me.

EDIT: I FOUND THE PROBLEM OF THE SLOW CLIMB, my hose clamp connecting my turbo to the plastic inlet on the intercooler was broken and just dangling.

a resonse

I still have the stock bpv...but SOME of the symptoms shown above have stoped..
After 3 days of putting around Mr. Patel(gas person) put 1 1/2 gal of 87 oct in freaking retards (reason 929867724 not to live in jersey)
so i stayed off boost for that tank
the next fill-up tried some wot runs. . the car went to redline
no hesitation, or anything. bucking is still there

but now the evil car gods are pissed again
theres a vibration the elevates with speed, highway driving is almost unbaerable on bumpy roads. Almost like the tires were shaped like eggs

the 1st gear grind has come back(after clutch is down to the floor)
and its gitting hard to shift into second below 3k rpms, shifter gets pushed back to neutral

1st gear rattles, like 1 nut in a can rattling above 4-rpm's only within 10 min of starting

checked obvious things tire pressure, tire blisters, balance
but no luck, & no money for it not to be covered under warranty

22 years old / look 18 + cobb stage 2= not going to be fixed under warranty
with my luck.
