Default Quietest Exhaust for the STi?

is there such a thing? Would like to eventually get an exhaust for better flow but dont want to add alot of noise...suggestions for a good flowing yet quiet exhaust appreciated...

You'll want the Borla Hush or the Greddy SP2 or Evo2. If you're also looking for a downpipe, the Helix Catted DP will be your best bet.

Thanks,

Geoff

I can deal with some obvious increase in sound to get that nice boxer tone. But not ridiculously loud. Anyone have first hand experience with the HKS Carbon TI Catback? (I figured to go catback first and just reset the ECU after install. Full turbo back requires significant tuning I've heard). I have 04 STi.

I agree, if anything I'd be looking for a lower exhaust note. BTW I believe any titanium exhaust is going to be on the loud sound, plus a little more "tingy"

I like my Stromung catless turboback. It's pretty quite and it doesn't drone on the freeway. It's gets a little loud though when you floor it but that's when i want it to be loud .

SP2 is very quiet. I heard it before with a catted downpipe, very quiet. That would be a good selection. That is the one that I am going to get, if I ever get the money.

Fujitsubo powergetter is perfect IMO. I own one and it is very quiet, and I have a 3" cattex helix downpipe bolted to it too. No highway drone whatsoever and it idles like stock. The fitment is amazing and i would buy it again in a flash. I also love the styling too, I bought mine from ravspec, they should have them in stock for a USDM STi. I think its www.ravspec-online.com

I have the HKS Carbon Ti with the HKS downpipe. It is not quiet but not the loudest out there. I'd rank it somewhere in the middle of the range.

I have the Maddad Stealthback w/ 1 cat, and the stock axleback... sounds very near stock...

I even have a borla header on there.... it added a bit of rasp when cold, but nothing toooo crazy. I'm looking at the Maddad 2.5" whisper axleback now for a little added sound... but nothing much.

My vote is for the Prodrive axle back round tip, with any other front sections that fit up to it. Most of the sound can be reduced on any system by choosing the right backbox.

04 Sti with Bosal divorced dp no cats- Greddy SP 2 = very quiet nice rumble. I can get a clip this week for you. Also going to a bellmouth Invidia V2 will get a byte with that one also.

I have a Helix catted DP and Borla Hush. It is decently quiet but it does sound aftermarket. Only way to be real quiet is stock STi axleback. But the nature of the stock STi axleback baffled design is a restriction.

If you are ok with a twin tip it is a good combo.

I have a JDM Helix catless dp and the Fujitsubo power getter...it's got just the right amount of sound in my opinion. It's also about to be up for sale, $700 shipped for the entire turboback

If you talk to Borla engineers, the only part number they have for the hush (had three months ago) was for the 2.0L, not the 2.5. Meaning, though the exhaust fits, it may start to restrict flow that much past stock mods. Or it's just Borla being cautious in their statements.. You decide.

I went with a Stromung TBE and added a Vibrant Racing cat to the midpipe. I'm quite pleased with it. I didn't want to be unnecessarily noticed and I'm not. There's more noise to the cabin at 2500rpm and below, but it's not obnoxious. Highway cruising ~3000rpm is reasonable.

I'd recommend it. Not THAT quiet in the sub 2500rpm range, but I've been on the outside looking in while someone lapped my car around a track. Not too noisy at all!
