OMGHi2U Stock WRX turbo compressor map (finally!!!)

After many, many years of looking for the TD04L-13T turbo compressor map, the Nabisco user Elwood found it and I am hosting it for all to look at. Download/view it via THIS LINK. This link is in .tif format. Or via THIS LINK. This link is in .jpg format. Thanks to Nabisco user UkNuck for converting the tif to jpg!

Great news!

Thanks for finding that Elwood and Unibomber for hosting it.
For those of you who want to keep a local copy, when you get it displayed on your screen, simply hit <alt> <print screen> that will capture a snapshot of your screen as a BMP image. Paste it into "paint" or some other image program, and then "save as" and you can convert it to a GIF which will be a much smaller file.

Larry is supposed to make it nice a pretty for us all, so I won't steal his thunder. Let's just say for the uninitiated that the stock WRX turbo is MUCH bigger than most of us thought.

Anyone know how to convert cubic meters per second into pounds per minute? I was looking through some old back issues of SCC and found "Turbo sizing: You do the math" and their airflow is all calculated in pounds per minute.

I found this page on the web, it has a lot of conversions...
http://mercurypickup.com/usefulformulas.htm
...but I can't seem to figure it out.

OK, air weighs 1.222 kg per cubic meter, and 1 kg = 2.2 lbs
So that's 2.68 lbs per cubic meter (per second) x 60 (seconds)

160.8 should be the conversion number

So .05 cubic meters per second should be 8.04 lbs per minute

I didn't mean to start doing all this math, but I did, and it's probably wrong!

Here are the parameters:

The temperature of the MHI map is rated at 68*F
14.7 ambient air pressure
85% Volumetric Efficiency

At 20 psi (I know its too high, but I was curious) I got:
2.46 pr
At 4000 rpms .12 cM/s
At 7000 rpms .21 cM/s

At 15 psi I got :
2.12 pr
At 4000 rpms .10 cM/s
At 7000 rpms .18 cM/s

later, x

Hmmm, stock turbo IS bigger than I thought I guess... I wonder if those calculations are correct. It seems that the people running the stocker at 18-20psi aren't so "dumb" as some of us thought. Hell, I run it at 17-18psi and it feels great, of course with supporting mods and logging, tuning, etc.

I'd love to find out how many pounds/minute it flows!

Why can't I post attachments? I've been painting dots all over the compressor map, and I'm not allowed to post a screenshot.

Someday we'll get the turbine map and we'll see how bad the hot side is choking us!

But at 20 PSi, isn't the block still an issue?

O.K. great, but some of us are kinda dumb, what does this mean. How can we take advantage of this new find. So, the turbo can produce much larger boost than expected.
Does this mean that buying a larger turbo is now moot for most of us?
What can we do to take full advantage of the "new" size?

An external gate seems to make great gains in hp and even better gains in spool on these td04s.

Wow...took a while but it finally came around huh? If I could get good power out of the stocker at higher boost levels without having to buy a new turbo that'd be great. Just about how much larger is it than what was originally thought? If you could compare the 13T as we know it to another similar turbo what would it be?

I'm guessing that a compressor map doesn't take into consideration the pressure drop of the stock IC, does it? So, 20 psi peak is really like 17 psi measured at the boost gauge.
