Default Question for BD owners with turbo kits

For those few with turbo kits on their BD EJ25, what top mount intercoolers are you using? I have an OEM WRX tmic with my FAT kit and it hits the hood and sits right against the firewall - nevermind trying to get the damn thing out.

Are there any smaller alternatives? WRX tmic body is 18"x9.5"x3.5".

Thanks,
Ryan

The FXT IC is much shorter (I think its the same as the new 06+ WRX IC), with plastic end tanks. I still have not had time to try and install mine yet. I was thinking about going with a big turbo and FMIC.

Have you tried cutting down the TB?

Oh cool, do you mind measuring the FXT IC please?

The TB outlet on the tmic has been cut down pretty far already, but I don't think I'd want to cut up a tb if I can get an alternative ic. Thanks!

Yeah, but I have 3 more weeks of school, and the IC is at my parents place. Hope you don't mind a little delay.

Cause it's supposed to be that way. There's nothing for it to screw into!

Hey, saw you at the ECS meet yesterday. The car looks great!

I believe there are a couple of legacy-specific TMICs out there, suppliers elude me atm though.

Thanks Dan!

I'll see if I can search around the interweb for some of these suppliers you mention. Do you remember if you saw their names on a specific forum? Maybe LegacyGT.com?

Yeah I can imagine, especially since the FAT tmic is $800 to make Stage2. Are you running the AVO, Rio?

I guess I was thinking of the AVO, it's been a while since I've looked at turbo related stuff.

You might also want to consider going to an a/w setup. I believe the stock BC a/w intercooler fits a little better than a wrx tmic (and are cheap if you can find one), or you could build a custom setup with laminova cores.

I have a FXT intercooler on mine, i don't have the measurements, but i can tell you it fits beautifully. when we installed mine, we bolced off 1 of the inlets on the bottom and fed the turbo into one of them (i.e. no "Y" pipe) has been working great for almost a year.

Just an update for you guys, here's how an 06 WRX intercooler fits in the BD (like a friggin glove). Just needs some support, 1-2" where it sits on the back perch. I used a couple of couplings. Will probably try and work something permanent later on.
