You might have better luck if you search some of the Impreza forums. I'm sure it's been discussed at length there, but I've not seen it brought up seriously in here.

I myself checked the conversion forum.

It is very pricey.

Not worth the effort unless you're going to race your Legacy IMHO.

Just wondering- is there some wheel out there is so great that it's even worth thinking about this conversion?

Kraziken- plenty of people race all manner of Subies on 5x100 hubs & wheels. Sure, the new STi 5x114.3 hubs are reportedly bigger/stronger/better, but I still have a hard time figuring out how such a conversion would be worthwhile on a Leg, unless you're a serious hard core track guy.

A snippet from the thread I read.
----------------
Why swap: Wheel selection of 5x114.3 bolt pattern and SUPERIOR front hub and bearing.

For serious Auto-X'ers, DE, or club racers, there are only a couple production wheels wider than 8.5" for the 5x100 bolt pattern and custom will run $2k+. 5x114.3 has 'any' width wheel and many can be found in the cheap, light, and strong category.

The 05 bearing in the front is larger / stronger which will prolong life and resist knock-back longer. Plus the hub and bearing come as one sealed unit, which I call a unit hub, which bolts to the knuckle. Replacing a unit hub should take ~30 mins.

--------------------------

Perhaps the parts costs isn't that great. I didn't consider this upgrade, because it would require dumping my uber expensive Volks.

The width of the wheel doesn't help us Legacy folk I think either, since we're already a bit more limited in space I think. At least us BD/BG owners.

If anyone is serious about this, check out the full thread here.

Good info Kraziken.

I'd think that even with near-perfect offset, the last two generations might have trouble with anything wider than 8". I saw something on MotorWeek about the differences in separate versus the hub units with integrated bearings. Interesting, and valuable if you need to swap bearings, but much more expensive than simply replacing the bearings in most cars.
