Default I screwed up. Bad.

First time ebay purchase. the only one I've ever made.

Fidanza short throw shifter, seems like a good price, Fidanza has a name, and it advertised for the 93-95 Subaru tranny (Impreza & Legacy).

Here's the item

So I get the shifter today. Looks pretty nice, i'm excited. So excited that I go and rip out the stock one, and the ball on the end of the shifter (the other end, not the end you put your hand on) breaks on the way out.

So I put the shifter in, and realize that it doesn't fit my car. WTF?!

There's no fork, like the stock one. It looks like the one for the 97+ subarus. I should've realized this before I messed my stock one up.

I'm so F**ked.

What should I do?

Obviously, I'm going to contact the guy and ask him if he sent me the wrong one, and if I can get my money back.

In the meantime, I can't pull up on my shifter, otherwise it might come out of its socket.

*argh!*

note: If I can't get my money back, there's a Fidanza short throw shifter for a 97+ Legacy F/S brand new.

to top it off, I looked on Fidanza's website (something I should've done in the first place).

They have no listing for that part.

Would the 96 linkage be the same as mine?

I'd like to see pictures.

I think its the same. I tried to put a WRX shift rod into it once and it would not work.
The swivel joint on the transmission end is warn out on it, but everything else is good. I got the shift bushing for it somewhere in my pile of Subaru parts.

I'll give it to you for the price of shipping. $10 should cover it.

Yep, Aaron is the man

I'm just glad I don't have to explain this to my dad!

Actually, I kinda do, but...oh well.

Now let's see what we can do about getting a refund on that falsely advertised short throw shifter

i actually have seen many honda owners do this, but it's always been with small parts that no one ever really cares about (except obviously, the people who need the parts!). an entire shift linkage assembly though, that's a fairly expensive piece of machinery there!

Default wait a minute. . .

So whats wrong exactly?? . .I bought a shifter off ebay as well . its was not the fidanza thingy , actually a cheaper one!! but i went to put it in and it goes in reverse or backwards basically. The shifter I have is a straight rod with a welded on circlular part. The rod is faced towards the rear of the car when you install it. UNLIKE facing the front of the car on the original that curves around from the front to the rear. Most of the shifters from the wrx should fit the legacys, outbacks, and such... Atleast its liek this for my 97 Outback. Original shifter was curved all over the place......

Well, I could battle the eBay vendors, but seeing as how this is a scam, I probably won't get my money back. It would just be easier to sell it to you.

70? That's how much I paid. (+ shipping)

Well, The 93-95 Legacy design is backwards. Instead of the linkage from the tranny (or to the tranny, depending on how you look at it) holding the shifter, the shifter holds the linkage. They're essentially backwards. What I ended up with (with the Fidanza) was two of the "recieving ends" which obviously doesn't work. It's kinda hard to describe. Like on the 93-95, it's Fork --> reciever (shifter --> linkage) and it's vice versa on the 97+ (no, I don't know where 96 fits into this, I think it had a mechanical change halfway through, so it gets excluded from all the sales ads). So I ended up with no fork with the Fidanza.
