The 5-spd in my '00 GT Ltd is shot. There is a guy relatively local to me that has a tranny for an '01 Forester that he is selling. The official charts and the Subaru shop say that the Forester tranny will not fit on the '00 GT Ltd.
I see posts around NASIOC about people trading trannys so what could be or is preventing an '01 Forester tranny from being dropped into my '00 GT Ltd?

The Forester might also be 4.44 gear ratio, which would necessitate the replacement of your rear differential as well.
As for it fitting, I don't know whether or not it will swap, but I'd be very surprised if it wouldn't bolt up just fine. |

You need a 4.11 final ratio to work without further parts beyond the tranny. It will bolt in though. I just went through this myself and found a used 01 RS tranny.

Gray,
Were there any tricks involved in dropping it in (ie. any plug/wiring/bolt adapters)? Was it is as simple as just bolting it on? Thanks!!! |

It was not a job I had the time or the ability to do myself so I had someone else do it. As far as I could tell it is just taking the old one out and putting the new on in. Sorry I can't be of more help. I also had the flywheel resurfaced and a new clutch put in at the same time.

why would you want a forester trans? Is it stronger or has a higher highway cruising speed? And yes, it should just bolt up as far as fitment is concerned. The final gearing and speedo are things I can't answer...
