Default sound clip request

Hi, I am trying to find sound clips that clearly show the difference between a car with equal length header and those with unequal.

I have seen videos with equal length headers, but its hard to compare one car with its mods and El header to a different car with different mods and Unequa length.

Basically, i just want a video that I can listen to that CLEARLY displays the sound difference between the equal and unequal length headers.

I read equal length and you sound like a bumble bee (lose the boxer sound).

I want to hear for myself how 'bad' it sounds in comparison to unequal length.

Also, coud i just remove my cat and get a cel fix and get extra hp with my stock header?

Dan

Just look for soundclips of any exhaust on an inline 4 with about 2.5L of displacement.

well....it all depends on the whole setup on sound. The Integra Type R has a really nice exhaust to it because of larger valves, thus more sound emmiting out.

Tuned exhaust manifold/headers will have very fast pulses. Factory cars that slightly has unequal length are 240SX, and our NA 90-05 Subarus. The WRX/STi/FXT/LGT will have the rumble. I'm not sure on the twin scroll Spec C ......

Default well

thanks for the reply.

the issue was whether going to equal length headers would make my car sound terrible. a firend of mine told me not to bother, because my car would sound like a bumble bee, and to just gut my cat and get the CEL fix for the extra HP.

He said the headers dont give much hp, its the cat thats restrictive and getting rid of that will free up most of the hp...which is why some of the EL header come with a track pipe, not a cat pipe...

any truth to that?

right now i just have a catback and intake, i wanted more HP that the equal length headers can give, but not sure about a bumblbee sounding car.

To have full benefit of the headers, you have to have headwork and also have the intake side of the engine with a better flow induction system (aftermarket intake plumbing; CAI, cone filter, ram air effect, etc..)

Head work will allow the headers to work better with flow coming out of the engine better. Having the track pipe helps with scavenging because it doesn't have the cat sitting so close to the collector at the headers, it doesn't disrupt the lower pressure behind the exhaust pulses. A well tuned exhaust header sounds nice. The reason Honda's with well tuned headers sound bumble bee is because all the pulses are equally exiting.

There are Civics that are slow..and some that are fast.... having yours sound like theirs doesn't mean you're one of them...it's just a way of tuning the NA motors.
