I have an 02'wrx with uppipe, catless dwn-pipe, 3' catback, and an mbc. I was wanting to buy a utec system to get my car tuned and get rid of my mbc. I am also planning on getting a usdm sti motor maybe next summer and noticed that txs has two different utec systems for the wrx and the sti. I was wondering if i would have to sell the utec and buy the one for the sti or if the wrx one would work after being retuned??
Thanks

Your UTEC should match your ECU, and your ECU needs to match your motor, wiring harness, heads, etc, etc.
If you just swap the shortblock, use your stock WRX heads andstock WRX ECU, stock wiring harness, etc, you will need the WRX UTEC. I assume this is what you mean when you say you are getting an STI block. If you do a whole longblock swap with STI AVCS heads, wiring harness, ECU, throttle body, and gas pedal, then you need the STI version of the UTEC. But if you're doing all that I probably shouldn't have to tell you. |

. I don't really know that much about subaru motor swaps but i helped my friend swap a gsr motor into his ex civic, and he has helped out w/ a couple other swaps for some other honda drivers. I should be okay but thanks for the concern, and info, i guess . |

Is it not possible to swap in an STi longblock and use the wrx ecu and utec but at the result of no AVCS??? The only thing different between the harnesses from what I've read is the AVCS and i believe the crank angle sensors, have I missed something else in my reading??? this should work fine if you're keeping all the rest WRX components correct???

exactly what I thought, I have a brand new 06 ej257 shorty sitting in my garage and some JDM ver.8 heads on the way for it for my 02 wrx and I don't care about AVCS at this time so I'm going to be using my wrx ecu and utec that I have currently. let me know how the swap goes as I'll probably be doing mine in the next couple weeks once my heads are here.

Mine is a odd combo, but I'm still able to use my WRX UTEC & ECU.
US STi shortblock w/ AVCS JDM v7 heads (currently AVCS disabled until I get the money together to buy a JDM ECU, cam gears, & wiring). My UTEC works just fine with it. |
