Default Anyone ever swap a WRX motor into the RS?

Wondering if this is possible, what's involved. I think the RS is much better looking, but would like to swap a number of parts from the WRX into it, mostly the motor =)

Adam Bloom swapped an STi V5 or V6 into a 99 RS. It's mechanically pretty simple, but the engine management is the pain in the ass portion of the swap.

The current WRX drivetrain will bolt into an older model Impreza, with the right crossmembers.

I thought he put in a V4?

Along with the crossmember, youll need to get the ecu and wiring harness, and run some piggybacks to compensate for the different fuel we have, or go full engine management.
If you can afford it, take the latter route

I think Patrick is talking about our WRX (USDM), since he made the comments about the RS being better looking. Wow, that's the first time I've heard anyone say something bad about the new body style.

Yeah, I was talking about the US spec, because I figured parts would be easier, but J-spec would be OK too. Any sources for the parts? So I would have to put in an all new ECU etc.?

I believe you'd need the newer ECU I dought there is a way you can hack the rs ecu into an wrx motor. But they again it could be done. just not very easily. If you get a tec2 that'd be slightly easier than the safc, itc and all that stuff.

Get the motor and have a good shop do the swap for you. I'd get a crashed junker with engine and tranny (basicly all the stuff you need) and store it until you find the right place. I'd also get a after maket cluth and flywheel too while it's just chillin.
