Default EJ257 block with ported WRX heads and bigger cams

I am now getting a 2.5L longblock to run with my '02 ECU which will probably be ECUTeked before I drive home in less than 2 weeks. However, when I get home, I'm thinking of swapping the heads with AVCS to my WRX heads, which will get ported and rebuilt with bigger cams, different valves, etc. This way, I won't need more EM to run the AVCS and won't have to deal with switching to DBW, which I don't want to do. Any ideas on what cams I should be looking at? Only looking to make 300-350whp, and I'm stage 2 right now.

crower stage 2(264) cams should be enough for the power you're looking to make.

Would you say that I just need cams? I was looking at the Helix 264 cams and valvetrain package.

You'll need upgraded springs etc. depending on how hard you drive or want to bullet proof your set up. I'd spend the extra money. Labor to do the work would be about the same.

I did a 2.5 shortblock with wiseco pistons with my untouched wrx heads and a DB tdo6h 20g. My goal after the final tune 330-340 whp. I was one phone call away from doing crower stg2 cams. After doing a ton searching I discovered cams were not needed for my goal. If you have the EJ 257 longlock you already have the sti valves and a more aggressive cam profile.

i would do the cams and like Subaroooo said, spend the extra money on the valves. u may reach your goal with stock wrx heads but the power delivery though out the band of bigger cams w/ wrx heads is much much better.

well, a guy in our club is running a set up of similar description with good results:

it's actually the setup I wanted to do for my poor college student budget but I've since changed my mind
