Post How to remove '99 Legacy sedan rear package tray?

I'm trying to remove the rear package tray (the flat area below the rear window) on my '99 Legacy sedan. However, I can't figure out how to get the package shelf out. It appears the rear seat headrest and side bolsters are all one big piece, and that needs to be pulled out before I can get the package shelf out.

Has anybody done this, and if so could you help me out? Thanks a lot.

Cool

I don't know about the tray but the rear seats are easy to take out. You have to unscrew the 2 bolts down by the floor and the bottom of the seat slides out. Then I think there are 3 or 4 screws that hold the back of the seat on. They are on the bottom of the seat. You will have to open the folding parts to get it off and also the carpet will come apart, then you can just pull out the back of the seat. I had to do that to put in my struts, its pretty easy though. But again, I don't know about the part you are talking about.

I think that may be the head start I needed. I could see there were a couple clips at the top of the back of the seat but I couldn't pull the seat back up out of those clips. I guess that's because of those bolts at the bottom you mentioned. I'll take a look at all that tomorrow.

ya, and also the lock on the folding part of the back seat holds it on there too.
