Unhappy Dog vs. bumper-dog wins

Last night I was on my way home with a dinner. I was driving my Outback on a fairly busy road at ~40mph when I saw something move in my left side periferal vision. As I realized that it is a black dog I stomped on the brake, and cut the wheel to the right and heard a loud "thud". The dog bounced off the left corner of my bumper and ran off. I turned around and found the owner(2 distressed kids) who informed me the dog was O.K. . I have a dog and 4 cats so I was relieved that the dog wasn't hurt but my car wasn't so lucky. I have a dent the size and shape of the dog's head in the corner of the bumper Can this be fixed or am I going to need a new bumper? The car is leased so I really don't want to put an insurance claim in if I can avoid it.

Let me tell you, I feel for you. The other night while driving home in the rain, A small fox just jumped out in front of me. Cracked the bottom of the bumper and broke the foglight. $782 for new bumper cover and foglight and fog assembly. This especially SUCKS because the insurance guy said it was a collision. He was trying to tell me what I did! There is slight scraping on the bottom of the front nose from bottoming out. and he said thats what caused the crack. I called the next day and demanded that they send someone else out to look at it. They'll be here Monday. Damn animals. I guess people think they can shaft a young kid with a new car. Think again.

You should feel lucky that you only hit a small size animal.

I was riding in my friend's CRX 89, on I-680
late at nite. All the sudden we saw something BIG in our lane. My friend did the best he could do to avoid that thing, but the right side still hit that whatever thing.

After we stopped, boy, we got broken headlight, bumper, bend hood & fender, raditor has been push in deep...
We walked back to check out that thing. It turned out to be a large size wild boar, about 300lbs I guess...

Of course the boar was dead, and my friend's crx was severly damaged, and the CHP would not let us take the boar. I wondered if they would have a BBQ party tomorrow for themselves.....

I'm sorry to hear what happened. At least the dog was okay. Anyways, have you called your local junk yard? If you bring in the items, the dealer or mechanic will only charge you their hourly fee.

A wild boar isn't much...
My friend got a cow in North Dakota. It totaled his Mustang. After crushing his hood, the hoof scratch started in the left front and went across the hood to the mid-right when it crashed through the window, and flew over to the right of the car. He was going about 55 mph he guesses.

Well, I decided I'm just going to pop it out and live with the cracked paint(at least for now). I figure the winter is coming and with my luck if I fix it it'll get wrecked again. Besides, it's leased and I may or may not buy it out. I like the new GT and if the H6 is available I'll probably turn the Outback in.

Just hope you never encounter a dear...their feeble legs break and the body will go right through the windshield killing you...just a happy thought for a rainy thursday...

Hit a deer once in my old mx-6 while driving in B'ham. That was pretty crazy. I had a premonition that the deer was going to run right out in front of me and sure enough just at the wrong moment the deer made a dash for it right in front of me. Luckily because of my 'deer whisperer' abilities, I was able to slam on my brakes and not kill the crazy bastard. I plowed into it and knocked the crap out of it literally (it craped little co-co puffs as it somersaulted off my front bumper). It got up and ran off into the woods still stunned but not limping or anything. What suprised me most was the fact that I didn't get rear ended. When I looked up into my rearview I saw cars spun out behind me that were trying to avoid my rear bumper. The image of the crapping somersaulting deer will forever be ingrained in my mind.

Cool

Well, I managed to pop out the dent and it doesn't look too bad. I heated it up with a hair dryer and reshaped it a little. With a little more work I could probably make it better but it appears to be regaining it's shape on it's own(gotta love polymers).

As for deer, I see them all the time where I work on eastern L.I.. I've had a few close calls but have been fortunate so far. I put those little "whistles" on my car but I don't think they make a difference because the deer are so used to cars.
