Default Sound Buff`s ~~~ Opinions please

okey, i am in need of some advice.

i have been looking at a lot of home speaker packages. and i really am not set on any. but i do like one more than the others...

i am selling my 2 15" floor stands and my cheap~ie sony 5.0 set up.

i am looking at the Bose® Acoustimass® 10 Series III, then adding there Bose® VCS-10® Low-profile center channel speaker.

thus i would have true 6.1 suround sound. my reciever is capable of 7.1, but personally i really dont think there is a big differance between the 2. and i am in a really small room. but i want a system that i can put in a larger room and still sound great.

any input would be great.

12-1300 is my cap.....

yeah bose is not all that great of a hype. Great speakers if your and old guy hehe.

I would suggest Defenitive, MK, and another brand I forget ehehehe... For that price range.

Dave what exactly are you looking for? Movie, tv, party music? I am a big fan of crown and Mackie gear. check out platinum records for some speakers depending on what your looking for.

Definitive technology speakers are awesome but I think they are a little out of the price range you posted. Believe it or not the polk audio home line speakers are very nice.

check out the system at the very bottom, a little more money than what you listed but very nice setup, or you could piece your own together. A good friend of mine has the $2500 setup and the sound was amazing. My father in law has a definitive setup which is twice the money as this and I honestly could barely tell the difference between the two.

I have a Polk RT5000 system from the late 90's that I paid around $3500 for on a clearance sale. I really like Polk's high end stuff, but I have never liked their "consumer grade" stuff (under say, 1500 a pair). The RT5000 setup still rocks my world and gets the neighbors coming by (and I live in a single family home w/ a decent yard.)
Beware of sound shops putting a pair of speakers in a really well done room with their own music and their own amps and sources. A really good audio pro can make any speaker in the world play one particular piece of music really well in one room.

I used to take the following music:

Led Zep - IV
SoulIISoul
Tool - Aenima
John Coltrane - Live at Birdland
Dave Brubeck - Quartet Take Five
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Choir - Carmina Burana
Kiri Te Kanawa - Puccini Arias

If any speaker system in the world with similar amp power to your own can do all that well, both soft and loud... then you have a winner.

There is a place called Home Video Library off of 165th and Division in Portland. they love to wheel and deal and used to have surround sound stuff. They do not have a website though.

I have Klipsch Reference towers and matched center channel running 5.1 (receiver capable of 7.1), I've had it in both a small and large living room and they sound great IMO.

Nice looking too (all black), will be a little more that your price range if you get the larger sized speaker towers (10's or 8's)...but they have a nice 6.5 tower for a good price that would bring a complete set just a little over what you are looking to spend...I've been very happy mine for the price (use for movies, music, etc.)

Hi Dave,
I've got a set of Klipsch but only a 2 channel set-up. Great speakers for sure.

This is what I've been looking at when I upgrade my system to surround.

http://aperionaudio.com/

They're made right here in good ole PDX. And the price is right.
