Most modified Outback?
I was wondering who on i-Club has the most modified Outback? I will nominate myself . So far mechanically I have a drop in K&N and RS shifter with Cusco bushings. Suspension-wise, I have Whiteline heavy duty front and rear swaybar links and adjustable rear swaybar. Plans in the next month include RS wheels and tires and KYB GR2s (probably with Whiteline stock height springs).

I have a friend that though he doesn't visit the board he was one very nice outback. I wish I could remember the specifics better but basically, it's turbo charged, striped interior, roll cage, full suspension work, new transmission, exhaust etc. It's one hell of a car. When I see him online I will get more info but thats all I know for now.

I've done a decent bit but it is still a work in progress. That basically means I'm broke.
Lemme see... 205-70/15 Michelin Rainforce MX4 tires Axxis Metal Master semi-metallic brake pads (front) Corbeau Forza Driver's Seat (en route) Hella FF100 Driving Lights Hella Twin Supertone Horns Homemade Lower Grill Protection Painted Hood Scoop Plate (Hi-Gloss red) Primitive Racing 1/8" Front Skid Plate Stromung Cat-Back Single Tip Exhaust Subaru rear differential protector Trunk Mounted Fire Extinguisher Removed Factory Intake Silencer Amsoil air filter Next is probably going to be a new mid-pipe since my 2.25 turned out not to fit (stupid midas) and then a tranny cooler, 21mm rear sway bar, ALK, harness, cb radio with weatherband, better tires, suspension upgrade http://www.remarcable.net/misc/legacy_outback/ |

There is an MI guy that has a custom CAI, exhaust, low profile tires, and a 100 shot. I'm not sure if he's got anything else though.

If 'most modified' includes just adding SOA stuff that didn't come on the car, then I've done a lot - in addition to the couple of aftermarket things I've put on. This is on a 96 OB; some of these items are for other model years. Everything was self-installed
SOA stuff: - front/rear skid plates - trailer hitch & wiring - woodgrain kit - 6-disk in-dash CD changer, new OEM stereo, amp/sub (from 2001 MY) - tweeter kit - heated mirrors (ran new wiring harness) - engine block heater - security upgrade (waiting for install) Non-SOA stuff: - whiteline adj rear swaybar - whiteline antidive kit (going on RSN) - Infinity 625 speakers (all four doors) - 80w AW/gold fogs - 70/80 krypton-quartz headlamps - Competition Unlimited headlight harness - Hella Twin Supertone horns - JC Sports underdrive pulley - K&N drop-in (had full large cone, too loud) - Bradi front rotors - Michelin Rainforce tires I think there's more; can't remember :-) |

bagio,
I think most Outbacks have the Phase I 2.5l (DOHC heads and weaker block) that is not well suited to turbo or supercharging. Doug |

Hey guys,
I also bought a WRX 6 disk in dash CD changer thinkin/hoping that it would plug right in. Well, I have tried two different times and it doesn't work just plugged in like the original tape deck. I understand that newer cars (mine is a '97) or Imprezas have a ground wire that attaches to the head unit. I am going to try running a ground wire to a screw on the unit and see if that does it. If it doesn't, I am at a loss. Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks, Doug |

I am doing the same conversion, but with MY01 RS wheels and tires (I got them locally on Monday). I am pretty sure I am going to go with the Whiteline stock height wagon springs at the same time. When the 205/55VR16s wear out, I will probably try test fitting a bit bigger tire to get closer to the original tire diameter.
Doug Edit: Well I put the RS wheels and tires on this afternoon (need to get the old wheels boxed up to ship). They look less rediculous than I thought they would. Boy, those tires aren't really wide enough to protect those 7" wide rims. I will definitely do a "Plus Zero" if I can't fit a slightly wider and taller tire when these wear out...
