So now that it has been established that you got snow in your wheels, one thing you can do to help prevent this next winter is to wax the rims in the fall. In preparation for the winter, take each wheel off and wash real well front and back. Then wax the inside of the wheel. You can use a lot of wax here and leave it instead of buffing it out like you would normally do. This will allow snow and ice to slide off much easier and hopefully prevent build up.
