Default Silly but serious question

Can an OEM piston w/broken ringland be replaced with an identical(ie replace an A piston with another A piston) good piston, keep the old rings and not have to re-hone the block assuming there was no scoring/damage on cylinder bores?

FSM states only to bore/hone if out-of-roundness, taper or cylinder to piston clearance exceeds tolerance.
