Mine #4 went on Sunday at it's first autocross with 3500 miles. Car had 90 miles when purchased, had reflash before picking up, was a stop sale car and supposedly checked out fine. I got a conservative STU tune, everything else stock, at 1000 miles. Car started running rough and smoking on drive home Sunday, initially diagnosed as a stuck PCV. After PCV replaced, CELs lit up and compression test showed #4 to be toast. Dealer is replacing engine. PCV valve may have caused the detonation that killed mine.

Has Subaru fiqured out why these are dying. Many speculate it's the tune, different metallurgy in the pistons, the fuel injectors, improper ring gaps from the factory. I don't understand, my 02 WRX and 05 STi were very robust and I abused the hell out of them without a single failure. Why are the 07-09 so prone to failure?
