update: I ended up buying another speedo gear from subaru and had the wife turn the input shaft while I slowly tapped the case halves together so if the teeth were not perfectly lined up, they would line up before it was down all the way. It worked and the tranny was installed and the speedo was working and accurate. The tranny shifted nice and smooth and I loved the gear ratios way better than the wrx box.

Fast forward about 6K miles: I go to leave for work in the morning and my speedo is not working at all, it worked fine on the way home the day before. I get some Vehicle speed sensor codes thrown and it is running in safe mode and won't rev over 4k. I suspect the speed sensor went out so I took it out to test it, and decided to run the car in gear with the wheels off the ground to make sure the shaft is spinning, and it's not I pushed on it a little with my finger and it started to spin, and then it stopped again.

So the tranny has to come out, but it isn't all that bad since I figure this is a good time to do the 04' wrx swap with the built motor and DOM 2.5R I have been planning.

I'm just wondering what went wrong. I used the part numbers from a reputible source and other people have used this same speedo gear. I will find out what's wrong when I take the tranny back apart, but wondered if anybody has run into any problems adding this speedo gear assembly to their LGT tranny?

I will buy another gear, but don't want to have to pull the tranny again after 6k miles.

Any tips from Tranny experts/builders?
