It's because I have the most ghettorific intake in the history of mankind. It's still the original development prototype. It's made from spare tubing scrounged from the shop floor plus some plumbing parts. The best part is that it flows within 1% of the $$$ fully-tig-welded, custom fit production prototype I got when I was looking to get a manufacturer to make them commercially for me.
My car is a development mule. It's in a constant state of looking like crap because there's always a new dev part or prototype on it. Hell, I have that engine in and out so often I've actually worn out the threads in the bellhousing that hold the engine to the tranny.
