If you are trying to "soften" the ride, try a smaller wheel and a tire with more sidewall, and also lower tire pressures if you wish (will get a bit worse gas mileage).

You'll sacrifice some of the quick turn-in characteristics that you get with a lower profile tire, but it sounds like you really just want to soften the ride a bit.

I used to have a Saabaru wagon with RCE Yellows and dspecs, which was pretty stiff (great for autox ). When I went from my 17" wheels with Dunlap Star Spec tires to my stock (lighter) 16" wheels with Continental DWS all season tires (REALLY soft side walls), the ride was much softer. Granted it was a pretty big sacrifice in the handling department, it sure rode nicer on the city streets!

If you really want to change your setup, you could get a softer strut/spring setup and add bigger sway bars to help keep the handling more compliant. Bigger sway bars can cause a bit stiffer ride, but I don't think it will be as big of a difference in harshness when compared to a stiff spring/strut setup. I can't confirm this this from personal experience though...
