this is the info that I needed.
Even without the firewall in the way, you add more and more length to the up-pipe, to line it up by the inlet tube and eventually, that offsets the spool gains anyway.

But if there was an uppipe segment that mates the OEM twinscroll exhaust manifold, rotates the turbo and then a matching v-band downpipe, I could picture in my mind a silicone elbow coupler that would mate the compressor inlet, rotated as it is, to the turbo inlet in stock position.

There are advantages to a twinscroll in a Subaru, it's worth keeping.
