I have the base model CVT, which doesn't have a manual shift mode or paddles, and I average 38mpg combined. I took a long trip last weekend and averaged 43mpg, and I was cruising in between 2k and 3k rpms. I've had mine for 8 months, however. It takes a while for the computer to adjust to your driving style.
Also, the fuel economy meter works like this: the center point represents your current average mpg, and the needle position shows if your current mpg is more or less than your current average mpg.
