I agree the engine bay is a way more likely to start a fire. I've experienced this with a dump tube burning through a power steering line.

I've also seen a friends car catch fire from a surge tank being mounted that far back in a wreck. I personally feel the further back the fuel goes the more dangerous it gets, it's much more likely to get hit back there then in the stock tank location.
