Job: Airborne & Ranger qualified Cavalry Officer, Plt Leader in 3-7 Cav then patrolling the East/West German border. That was after OCS, I initially enlisted for the 2nd Ranger BN and went through Infantry OSUT before OCS, jump school and ranger school. Border Cav at the time was considered one of the most challenging assignments, I consider it a walk in the park compared to what some of you experienced in later years.

Probably the most interesting event was that I was present with a group of Cav officers at the dedication of the Ranger Memorial during the 4oth anniversary of D-Day, and we had a chance to speak with the Rangers who came back for the event. Reagan, Mitterrand and Thatcher were there, and Walter Cronkite was broadcasting from a casement right next to us.
