Already got summer wheels/tires that I am happy with. A WRX is in my future once I decide to get rid of this car but I generally hang on to cars for a while (105,000 on this one, 110,000 on my old Audi, 120,000 on my old Volvo). I will keep this one for at least a couple years so that's another reason why I don't want to do anything drastic or expensive.
If fuel economy is what you are after, go buy the skinniest snow tires you can find. The summer tires will destroy your gas mileage by comparison. You could also try taping most of the holes and cracks on the body to make the car more aerodynamic. Other than that, you will spend more money on mods chasing mpg than you will saving on gas. I would instead save your money and put it towards a faster, more fuel efficient car when the time comes.
