The tick at idle is probably normal. They're loud engines... especially when cold.

Some things you may want to change/check:
Spark plugs
Clean MAF (this especially for your idle problem)
Clean/replace air filter
Engine oil/filter (if you aren't up to date)
Tranny/diff fluid
Fuel filter (since it's external)

... basically anything normal. Be really careful with the MAF.. they are fragile. Also check visually any vacuum/boost lines. It's common to have leaks which fill boost and lean out the engine. You can spray carb cleaner around the turbo inlet hoses while the car is running to see if it will change the RPMs at all.
