I agree that the car should start more easily, but let's not get carried away. It starts. Be glad you don't have a VW TDI. The issues that VW has been building into those cars since 2009 leave people stranded, sometimes causing engine damage. I owned a TDI before this Impreza, so I know what it feels like to be stranded by a car with less than 30k miles on it.
So for me, I don't think that cranking the starter for 5 or 10 seconds is a show stopper. It shouldn't happen, but as long as the car starts, is it really a big deal?
I doubt it's caused by the car wash. I don't use a manual car wash. The wash I use is automatic, where it pulls the car through. I do this once or twice/week, and have only had a hard-start once (unrelated to the wash).
