proper fog lights are really bright, and are needed for times when visability is low, the standard rear lights are quite dim until the brake pedal is applied, so there is a risk that you may not see the car in front until they are braking and it may be too late. The high visiabilty rear fog gives drivers a much earlier indication of car in from of them.

not matter what people's opinion, if they have the correct bulb, and are used in the correct manor, then they are a valuable piece of safety equipment... otherwise they are for show.
