While the idea was to get the CG lower, having the exhaust exit from the bottom negated any potential advantage there. The mounting had to be raised to give the exhaust system clearance. Also, the engine was too wide. Subaru never went to a V12. When they sold the team back to Coloni, they changed engines and redesigned the chassis. It was still too slow to ever make a starting grid.
Subarus flat12 was never competitive, but do not forget about the Porsche 917. It couldn't be beaten and still has more power then most cars to this day.
To the OP: get over it! If I could easily and cost effectively fit an Ls engine in place of my ej I would! Stop being a Subaru fanboy.
