I think SLC has a great location, but I don't think it's that cool of a city. Provo is better IMO, but would be harder to find a good job there because of all the students graduating from BYU.
I live in Denver, and it's a cool city, but the highways are crap and good luck getting up I-70 in the winter time on the weekends. Ski traffic makes the drive time to the resorts ~3 hours. I'd rather live in UT. I've only been riding there once (at Snowbird) and it was the best day of snowboarding I've ever had.
