Deutschland is a great event ...
but a few pieces of advice...
- Learn as much german as you can - there is NOT a lot of english spoken in the area.
- look at staying in some of the MANY small towns around the area. you can find 'pensions' (bed and breakfasts) in the surrounding vinyards and villages.
- be prepared to WALK ... spectator parking will leave you with still significant distances to get to the stages. Stage security is TIGHT and the parking is not close - particularly in Baumholder.
The Gina Jump is worth the trek

and at times you might think the cars never touch the ground ...

Spectator parking for the service park is at LEAST 3Km away as I recall. Trier is a great little city, but finding an internet cafe was not the easiest thing to do last year. Euro is the currency of almost ALL of europe now.
And Luxembourg is definately the place to fly through ... about a half hour or 40 min from Trier. ENJOY the trip!... be prepared ... the focus (or any rental) will likely be a turbo-diesel ... but they go good!!
