Talking Moi? A mod? Hella 500 Driving Lights installed (w/ Pics)

I gots a bling-bling thing!

So this weekend I built myself a Home Depot $12 light bar and put a set of Hella 500 driving pattern lights on it. Much thanks to Peaty for putting the Impreza lighting wiring diagram up at Scoobymods. I was able to just copy the fog-light circuit over to the high-beam side, and it works a charm. When the switch is on, they come on with the high-beams and go out when I switch to low. They probably come on when I flash-high, but tough - you should have dipped your lights sooner. I also couldn't figure out how to make the switch light up when on. It was either always lit, or always dark,so I left it off - I hate bright lights in the cabin at night anyway...

As for the pattern, I'm... Well... Underwhelmed. I'd almost swear they're the fog pattern, but the part numbers match up, so I guess they must be the driving pattern. I've only had them on a short test-drive, and it was on a narrow tree-lined street, so maybe it'll be better on a more-open road. It's a sure thing that there won't be ANY deer or moose sneaking up on me from the ditch though.

I'm tempted to add a pair of pencil beams to the bar for distance. I'm not that pleased with the throw distance of the 500's. Summit has the FF1000's in a pencil beam for $76 a pair, I have a long-enough chunk of box-stock left to make a bar long enough for 4 lights, and I still have that one blank switch plate to fill...

I had to take a pair of tiny 1"x1/8" notches out of the bottom of my grill. The mounting is quite solid. I didn't notice any vibration while driving. I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow.
