the systems 2.25", as for going to 2", the problem is the backpressure begins to restrict the exhaust flow, the to any good NA exhaust is to keep exhaust gas velocity as high as possible, to big a pipe, and things really slow down, and don't allow the previous exhaust pulse to help pull the current pulse down the exhaust, again, to small a pipe, and things can't flow smoothly, theres just to much gas trying to fill the same space, and flow is less then optimal

axel back replaces just that, the axel back section, if you look under the car, you'll see where the stock midpipe ends and the axel back section begins, its basically the muffler plus the pipe that snakes around the axel to the midpipe, and ends at the stock location, since the axel back section is the most costly portion anyways, i think its well worth it just to get the whole cat back system
