The 04 STi steering rack has finally been installed. I had it professionally done. It is cold here and the prospect of wrestling with it on my back in freezing weather on cold concrete inspired me to spend my Subaru Bucks and some bonus money. The rack wasnít centered properly out of the box from the factory and Tommy said he had to take it out and move it over two splines to get it centered properly. I think the $445 was money well spent to have him install it. I also upgraded the stock bushing to Whitelines at the same time.
The best news of all for me was it was a simple bolt in. There was no guarantee that it would fit.

Iíve only driven it about 5 miles.
Initial impressions are:
The STi rack has a much more direct feel to it.
Gone is the looseness on center.
Steering effort has increased just slightly.
It only takes a small flick of the wrist to change lanes.
Making a sharp 90 degree turn takes much less turning input.

I need more seat time to make a final judgement, but right now I am very, very happy with it.
