I don't drive my car like I stole it and am not running 25psi or anything, but I don't like the fact that if a dash warning light comes on or 5 minutes after I pass a service interval mileage, I get an email from Subaru telling me what the light means and when/where I want to schedule service for it. So obviously they have a decent amount of access to track your car, definitely not calling them Uncle Sam and spies, but it is kind of shady that they can track basically my car all the time.

I looked on the StarLink site and you can't disable it, just turn off the emails etc. Anyone else feel like this is a tad shady and have found a way to disable it other than ripping off your antennae???
How is this "shady"?.................After you agreed to sign up for it?

The black box, as far as it has been reported so far, isn't brand new this year. It supposedly only takes logs during a catastrophic event. There's a user on another forum where they found he had done 124mph+ and what boost pressure and RPM he hit during the event. He mis-shifted into third at that speed and had issues after that with the car.

I see Subaru using this for two things, to aid authorities in crash investigations and to make sure they aren't getting ripped off with warranty fraud.
This and a 3rd reason. To notify you about your car. EVERY SINGLE DAY, I get a customer asking me "will it let me know when to change my oil"? This is just a step further. Most of the ones I talk to like it; but, I do get some that don't.

You will when that accident you weren't planning for happens and you are waiting for someone to call 911 when Starlink Connected Services has already done it.

I do agree on the annoyance of many emails though.

I think it's hilarious how folks think it's shady behavior by Subaru when THEY are breaking the law(and their car) and get caught with it when THEY are being shady lying about why their car is broke.
